Mary Immaculate College is an autonomous, university-level, Catholic College of Education and the Liberal Arts. Founded in 1898, and linked academically with the University of Limerick, MIC is the oldest higher education institution in Limerick. Significant expansion in recent decades has seen the College’s offerings expand across two modern campuses, one based in Limerick City and one in Thurles, Co. Tipperary. The student community consists of more than 5,000 learners, participating in fifteen undergraduate degree programmes and several postgraduate programmes extending to PhD/Doctoral level. Assistant Professor in Music with expertise in Choral Studies MIC Limerick Campus
Mary Immaculate College wishes to fill the position of Assistant Professor in Music with expertise in choral studies on a full-time, permanent basis. This role is expected to commence in Autumn 2026.
Under the direction of the Head of Department of Music and the Dean of Arts, the successful candidate will complement a research active department with a well-established academic record, contribute to the teaching and supervision of Music for undergraduates and postgraduate students across faculties and contribute to the academic and musical life of the college in line with the Strategic Plan 2030: “Pathways Lit, Futures Found”.
The appointee will be required to participate in the teaching and delivery of assigned modules in the College’s undergraduate degree programmes, e.g. the BA in Liberal Arts and Arts Elective modules for the B.Ed. In addition, the appointee will be required to participate in programme development and will be assigned administrative duties.
Commitment to high-quality teaching and learning in a student-centred multi-disciplinary environment is essential. The person appointed must exhibit evidence of strong commitment to a multi-disciplinary environment working with other colleagues in the Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Education. Evidence must be shown of a commitment to excellence in teaching, research and continued scholarly activity.
