Term: Up to 0.40 FTE; Fixed-term

The role 

Northeastern University London invites applications for a Lecturer in Finance. The appointee will teach undergraduate and/or postgraduate students and provide service to the discipline in line with the evolving needs and aspirations of the Faculty and University. Appointments are commensurate with experience and qualifications reflecting a record of demonstrated teaching and service excellence. 

Core duties include development and provision of innovative and inclusive teaching in relevant areas of Finance at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels; and professional service commensurate to career stage. Preference may be given to candidates with active interests in the relationship of Finance to one or more of the following areas: Financial Management, International Finance and Fintech.

We are open to appointing on a reduced fraction/job-share basis subject to our business needs. 

About the Faculty and Discipline 

The appointee will work in a multidisciplinary team within the Faculty of Social Sciences, and is likely to contribute to work across a variety of teams, both faculty and professional services colleagues, particularly in the entrepreneurship and educational innovation space. 

The Faculty of Social Sciences is home to over 70 members of faculty across five disciplines: Economics; Politics and International Relations; Business and Project Management, and Design and Communication Studies. The University provides a positive environment for interdisciplinary collaborations and encourages work across disciplinary boundaries. 

This role sits within the Business and Project Management discipline, where the faculty team comprises over 20 members working across a range of fields, including international business, marketing, accounting, finance, organisational behaviour, financial technology, sustainable business practices and project management. The provision includes BSc Business, MSc International Business, MSc Project Management and MSc FinTech Management, all taught for UK credits. It also includes Semester In, London Scholars and Summer School programmes, which are taught for US credits; therefore, knowledge of the US educational system and student expectations would be advantageous.

Person Specification Criteria 

To undertake this role, the following should apply—should you not have the experience below, please do highlight where transferable skills would assist with you undertaking the role. Unless specified, all criteria are considered essential

Qualifications

  • A Postgraduate Degree in Finance or equivalent professional experience in a relevant area
  • FHEA status, or equivalent, achieved or expected (Desirable) 

Key Criteria

  • Demonstrates, through evidence, excellent ability to be adaptable, innovative, and inclusive in the role as advertised with regards to teaching
  • Willingness and capacity to undertake continuous professional development in relation to institutionally strategic themes, including but not limited to AI, technology, data, sustainability, and ethics
  • Teaching competency in Finance and related areas at Levels 4–7 (i.e. undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels)
  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Excellent IT skills and evidence of supporting the integration of technologies into learning and teaching
  • Excellent time-management and organisational skills
