About the role

University of Nottingham Sport aims to be the UK's leading university for sport, physical activity and wellbeing, engaging 66% of students while ensuring participation reflects the diversity of our community.

A key part of this is our sector-leading Intramural Sport (IMS) programme. Supported by Rugby Football Union (RFU) partnership funding, the IMS Rugby Union element of this programme provides competitive rugby opportunities beyond the University's BUCS representative teams, helping to grow and retain participation. This part-time role (21.75 hours per week over three days) offers the opportunity to support and deliver this programme to students in an inclusive, safe and welcoming environment.

You'll:

  • Lead the planning and delivery of the weekly IMS Rugby Union competition programme during term time.
  • Support and develop the IMS Executive Committee, student societies and team representatives to deliver a high-quality participant experience.
  • Coordinate and support student volunteers and first aid provision.
  • Attend all Wednesday afternoon IMS fixtures during term time, ensuring the smooth delivery of competitions.
  • Mentor and support match officials to aid their development.
  • Oversee activity at one of our satellite playing venues.
  • Help maintain high standards of health, safety and participant welfare across the programme.

About the team

You'll join a dynamic and supportive Participation Sport team at the University of Nottingham Sport department, committed to creating an inclusive and accessible environment where all students feel welcome, valued and able to thrive.

About you

We're looking for someone passionate about student rugby and delivering positive sporting experiences. You'll be organised, proactive and confident working with students, volunteers and stakeholders.

You will bring:

  • Experience of organising or delivering sports leagues, competitions or events.
  • The ability to manage projects and coordinate multiple priorities effectively.
  • Experience of supporting or working with volunteers and student groups.
  • An understanding of what creates an engaging and inclusive sporting experience for students.
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements relating to the delivery of student sport and in rugby competitions.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to build positive relationships.

What we offer

In return, you'll benefit from:

  • A welcoming and supportive workplace where diversity is valued.
  • Flexible and hybrid working options to help you achieve a healthy work-life balance.
  • A generous annual leave entitlement of 27 days, plus bank holidays and University closure days, including the period between Christmas and New Year (pro rata).
  • Access to a wide range of staff benefits, including health and UoN Sport facilities, staff discounts and sustainable travel schemes.
  • A commitment to supporting you throughout your career, including reasonable adjustments during recruitment and employment where required.

All staff employed at Levels 1-3 will be eligible to claim unsocial hours (hours worked between 10pm and 6am) and weekend working enhancements. This payment will take the form of a 15% uplift for any time worked between 10pm and 6am and any hour(s) worked on a Saturday or Sunday.
