The Role

Maynooth University seeks an outstanding academic to join our staff as Professor in the School of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures (SMLLC). The person appointed will have an excellent record in research, scholarship and publication, in teaching and educational innovation, and in academic leadership in one of the five subject areas represented in the SMLLC (Chinese Studies; French and Francophone Studies; German Studies; Spanish and Latin American Studies; and Applied Linguistics and TESOL). They will be expected to make a strong contribution to the teaching and research programmes of the university, as well as to the management and coordination of the SMLLC.

Maynooth University is committed to a strategy in which the primary university goals of excellent research and scholarship and outstanding education are interlinked and equally valued. Professors will be expected to provide significant intellectual leadership, through a demonstrated commitment to both education and research, and also to contribute to the effective leadership and management of the School, the Faculty and the University.

The appointee will have an excellent track record in high-impact research, scholarship and publication, in attracting external funding for research, in leading research teams, in teaching and educational innovation, in the development and delivery of academic programmes, in service both to the academy and to society, and in academic leadership.

The new Professor will be expected to sustain and conduct research of the highest impact and standard, to engage in scholarship of quality and substance, and to generate publications of international standard. The appointee will be expected to build a strong research profile that supports the University’s research strategy, including affiliating to the Arts and Humanities Institute, where appropriate, and working with colleagues on national and international research projects. The new Professor will be expected to contribute significantly to research leadership within the School. This will be through their own research projects and proposals and through supporting the research capacity of academic staff members within the SMLLC, including fostering their capacity to successfully apply for external research funding and advancing their capacity to collaborate with colleagues on national and international levels.
