Arts University Plymouth is seeking to appoint a Lecturer to join our BA (Hons) Fashion Design  course. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to an ambitious and collaborative team committed to delivering high quality learning and teaching and outstanding student experiences.

As a Lecturer Lecturer (Fashion Design), you will support the development and delivery of an innovative curriculum that integrates theory, practice, research, and professional contexts. Working closely with the Senior Lecturer (Course Leader - Fashion Design) and the wider team, you will lead assigned units, support students’ academic and creative development, and contribute to the ongoing enhancement of the programme. You will also play an active role in the University’s research culture and student recruitment activities.

About You:

You will bring:

  • A BA (Hons) and MA in a relevant discipline (e.g.  Fashion , Fashion Design, Fashion & Textiles, Product Design)
  • Proven teaching experience in Higher Education, including assessment and pastoral support.
  • Key to this post will be the ability to work across 2D and 3D technologies;  both physical (toiles and garments) and digital 3D methods; to create CADs, tech packs, and detailed design specifications, with considerable knowledge of leading workshops using CLO3D and Adobe Suite
  • Strong subject knowledge spanning fashion theory, visual culture and sustainability.
  • Demonstrable research, scholarship, and/or professional practice.
  • An understanding of pedagogic models that integrate theory and practice.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and support diverse learners.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • An ability to build effective internal and external partnerships, including with industry and education providers.

About The Role:

In this role, you will:

  • Teach, assess, and provide academic support to undergraduate students, and contribute to postgraduate delivery where required.
  • Act as Unit Leader for designated units, managing all aspects of planning, resourcing, delivery, formative review, and assessment.
  • Support academic planning, curriculum development, and the Annual Monitoring Review process alongside the Course Leader.
  • Engage in research, scholarship, and/or professional practice that supports the University’s research culture.
  • Contribute to an inclusive, interdisciplinary learning environment and support cross-disciplinary collaboration.
  • Develop and maintain external networks that enhance industry engagement and learning opportunities.
  • Act as a personal tutor, signposting academic and welfare support in line with University guidelines.
  • Attend Course Team meetings, Student Feedback meetings, and Assessment Boards as required.
  • Actively participate in student recruitment, including Open Days, interviews, school/college visits, and outreach events.
  • Promote the work of the course within the University, nationally, and internationally.
  • Use digital tools and technologies effectively and responsibly in line with data protection requirements.
