Estates Digital Infrastructure Lead

As our Estates Digital Infrastructure Lead, you will be the single point of contact between IT Services and the Estates and Facilities Management department — embedded in estate developments from early design through to live service handover. Whether it's a major capital build, a refurbishment, or a strategic campus initiative, you'll ensure that IT is never an afterthought. You'll capture requirements, represent IT in project governance, coordinate specialist teams, and hold the thread from construction site to operational service.

The University of Sheffield is in the midst of an ambitious campus masterplan, and this role sits right at the heart of it. The breadth is significant — spanning passive infrastructure, communications rooms, active networking, AV and desktop IT — and so is the visibility. You'll engage with everyone from site contractors to senior leadership, and your work will leave a lasting mark on the campus for years to come.

Who we are looking for
You'll bring solid, hands-on knowledge of IT infrastructure — cabling, communications rooms, wired and wireless networking — combined with the confidence to translate that expertise for non-technical audiences. Experience working on building or construction projects in an IT capacity would be a real advantage, as would familiarity with RIBA project stages.

Equally important is how you work. You'll be organised, credible and collaborative, comfortable managing multiple concurrent projects and keeping stakeholders informed without losing sight of the technical detail. If you can hold a room with a project manager in the morning and review a contractor's cabling specification in the afternoon, this role is built for you.
This is a new post, which means you'll have the opportunity to define how it works in practice — building relationships, establishing ways of working, and making a genuine difference to how IT and Estates collaborate.
