Background

City St George’s library service provides support to students, staff and the wider University community across four library locations, augmented by online resources and user support delivered bo th online and at our library help desks. The Library Service has been awarded Customer Service Excellence accreditation.
We are seeking to recruit for an Evening Library Assistant post at the Clerkenwell campus. The role is based at the main Northampton Square Library during term-time (from mid-September until end of June). The expected working hours will be 5-9pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 12-6pm on alternate Saturdays.

Responsibilities

The Evening and Weekend Library Assistants ensure the smooth delivery of core services at the library help desk, through answering reference and procedural enquiries, delivering circulation functions, and assisting with library equipment. The role also involves supporting the online library enquiry service, shelving and collection management tasks. Evening/Weekend Library Assistants supervise a small team of staff delivering these services, overseeing and maintaining the library study environment and liaising with c olleagues including Security staff supporting the library during evening and weekend opening.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have relevant experience, preferably in an academic library setting, and excellent customer service skills. Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to supervise a team and foster a collaborative approach to work are also required. The Supervisor will be expected to give clear guidance and instructions to colleagues and liaise with colleagues in the library and other University teams.
