About the Role

An opportunity has arisen for a vetting professional to join our Compliance team. You will provide a partnering service to key customers across the University, delivering excellent customer service and business-focused advice and support. You will help ensure we recruit safely, efficiently, and in line with our high standards, working closely with the University’s Security Controller.

Our People and Culture Compliance team delivers a range of business-critical vetting services, which are increasingly important given Cranfield’s work and strategic partnerships. The primary purpose of this role is to provide expertise in security and other vetting matters across the University and its subsidiaries, supporting screening and security clearance processes. You will identify and assess risks to support effective vetting decisions and appropriate mitigation measures.

The Compliance Advisor will work closely with the Senior Business Partner – Immigration and Security, and the Security Working Group to:

  • Provide advice to staff and candidates on security vetting and pre-screening procedures.
  • Coordinate vetting clearances across Cranfield, MK:U and Shrivenham sites, including BPSS, Security Clearance, Developed Vetting and DBS.
  • Ensure security clearance applications are complete and processed within agreed timescales.
  • Maintain security clearance records on our Cranfield Secure database.
  • Produce reports for internal stakeholders about vetting procedures.
  • Monitor and respond to Security inbox queries.
  • Research best practice to support compliance with relevant security standards, currently IPSA.
  • Represent People and Culture Security and Compliance on relevant working groups.
  • Provide wider support to the People and Culture team as required.

About You

You will have excellent communication and problem-solving skills, be organised and detail focused, and demonstrate a practical, proactive and flexible approach to your work. You should have the ability to prioritise and to cope under pressure at busy times whilst keeping to deadlines. Teamworking skills and a focus on customer service are also essential. You will initially need to undergo Security Clearance, if not already held.
