The University of Tübingen is one of Europe’s oldest universities and in recent years has been very successful in the German federal and state governments’ Excellence Initiative. The Research Unit Comparative Public Policy at the Institute of Political Science of the University of Tübingen invites applications for

Two Research Officer/PhD Posts

(German public sector pay scheme TV-L E13, 75%)

for the duration of 3 years from 1 November 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter). Gross annual salary is commensurate with experience starting from approximately 43,000 Euro. The successful candidates will contribute to the externally funded research project “Measuring the Past and Assessing Future Possibilities of Welfare State Dualization” (DFG, German Research Foundation).

Essential requirements:

  • Excellent undergraduate and graduate degree in political science, sociology, or social policy
  • Interest in and knowledge of comparative welfare state research and/or attitudinal research
  • Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills in English (additional German, Swedish, Polish, and/or Italian language skills are beneficial)
  • Excellent skills in qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Excellent intercultural communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
