IT Services is the central IT department of the University of Oxford. It plays a critical role in enabling Oxford’s research, teaching and administration by providing the digital systems, services and expertise that keep the University running day to day and support innovation in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. Within IT Services, Software Solutions develops, enhances and supports business applications used across the University, working collaboratively with colleagues, stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams to deliver reliable, secure and continuously improving services.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Enterprise Applications Senior Developer, App Modernisation to join us on a fixed term basis for 3 years.
About the Role
As Enterprise Applications Senior Developer, App Modernisation, you will take a leading technical role in the Enterprise Applications Team, spearheading critical application modernisation initiatives across the University’s business applications estate. You will help modernise legacy systems so that they meet current security, performance and maintainability baselines.
You will plan and lead work to upgrade legacy .NET Framework systems and custom business software to modern .NET environments, including .NET Core and .NET 8+. This will involve refactoring applications, managing dependencies, migrating source code and hosting components, remediating vulnerabilities, improving database backends and strengthening DevSecOps and Application Lifecycle Management practices.
The role offers the opportunity to be a lead subject matter expert on modernisation, working closely with Security Assurance, System Architects, Business Analysts, product teams and other colleagues to plan safe migration paths and deliver improvements that create practical value for end users. You will also provide documentation, peer code review, technical guidance and mentoring to help the team adopt modern coding and ALM standards.
