Imperial College London - Department of Bioengineering

Location: London
Salary: £37,108 to £40,166 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 29th July 2026
Closes: 19th August 2026

About the role

Join a world-leading department shaping the future of bioengineering

Are you passionate about supporting the next generation of scientists and engineers? Join Imperial College London’s Department of Bioengineering, a global leader in teaching and interdisciplinary research, and help provide an outstanding hands-on learning experience for our students.

While our activities are split roughly 50/50 between both our South Kensington campuses, this role is primarily based in our South Kensington wet laboratories, at the heart of our teaching facilities covering topics such as tissue culture, genomics, biochemistry, etc.

What you would be doing

Based at our South Kensington campus, you will play a key role in the smooth running of our teaching laboratories, where undergraduate and postgraduate students develop the practical skills that underpin their academic studies.

As part of a dedicated team of teaching technicians, you will:

  • Prepare and set up practical classes, demonstrations, and experiments.
  • Maintain and support specialist equipment to ensure safe, efficient teaching.
  • Rotate across a range of teaching labs, enhancing your own technical skills and supporting resilience across the wider team.
  • Take part in summer development projects aimed at improving our teaching provision.

You will also have opportunities to engage with college-wide technical networks, contribute to initiatives such as sustainability, and take advantage of CPD and training opportunities.

What we are looking for

We are seeking an enthusiastic, proactive individual who enjoys working in a collaborative environment and supporting others. You will bring:

  • A background in biosciences, bioengineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Practical experience of working in a teaching or research laboratory.
  • Strong team working and organisational skills, attention to detail, and a flexible approach to balancing competing demands.
  • A commitment to health and safety, innovation, and supporting student learning.

What we can offer you

  • A welcoming, inclusive and diverse technical team.
  • Professional development and training opportunities through Imperial’s commitment to the Technician Commitment.
  • A sector-leading salary and benefits package, including 39 days leave per year and generous pension schemes.
  • The opportunity to work in state-of-the-art facilities at the heart of one of the world’s top universities.

Further information

This role is 100% on-site to support our practical teaching laboratories. Flexibility will be required to meet the demands of timetabled classes across multiple courses.

There will be an element of manual handling involved such as stock replenishment and accepting and transporting deliveries. Practical teaching laboratories will require standing for multiple hours at a time and movement through busy teaching laboratories to assist student and staff queries.

While primarily based at South Kensington, you will also have the chance to collaborate with colleagues and access, be trained and assist in the support of specialist facilities at our White City Campus.
