Applications are invited for a Research Assistant in Bioinformatics to join the Genomics and Bioinformatics Core (GBC) within the Institute of Metabolic Science - Metabolic Research Laboratories at the Clinical School, University of Cambridge.

The GBC provides analytical and data management support to research groups within the Metabolic Research Laboratories (MRL). This covers aspects of genomics such as genome sequencing and single-cell approaches, as well as broader data integration across multiple omics data types. The role holder will apply their computational and bioinformatics skills to contribute to the development of reproducible analytical workflows and to support the analysis and interpretation of functional genomics data.

The role also involves supporting good data management practices in line with FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable) data principles and using tools such as Git and software containers to support reproducible and robust data analysis.

Applicants should hold a degree (BSc, MSc or equivalent) in bioinformatics, computational biology, genetics, biochemistry, biology or a closely related field, and have strong computational skills.

This position also offers the successful candidate the potential to study for a PhD alongside their employment (subject to the University's Admissions policy).

This is a fixed term Research Assistant with funding available until 31 March 2030 and is available with immediate effect
