About The Role
Funded by the EPSRC Impact Acceleration Account (IAA), a Research Assistant is required for a period of 6 months, full-time, to support the development and translation of an innovative non-thermal plasma (NTP) technology for sustainable water treatment. Based within the Department of Chemical Engineering at Swansea University, the successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary research team working at the interface of engineering, environmental science, and industrial innovation.
The project aims to advance a patented NTP technology for the treatment of a complex waste stream and solids. The research forms part of a broader programme of work in the area of non-thermal plasma and builds on previous EPSRC and IAA-funded projects. The outcomes will directly support technology commercialisation, industrial engagement, and the development of a REF impact case.
The successful candidate will play a central role in planning and conducting laboratory experiments, operating and optimising the plasma reactor, analysing water and solid samples, interpreting experimental data, and preparing technical reports and scientific publications. They will also contribute to helping to translate research findings into practical solutions for the water sector.
Applicants should hold, or be close to completing, a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related discipline, with experience in laboratory-based experimental research. Knowledge of advanced water treatment technologies, advanced oxidation processes, plasma technologies, or environmental remediation would be advantageous.
