Reporting to and supporting the lead Finance Manager for the Faculty of Social Sciences, the successful candidate will work in a small team with an Assistant Management Accountant (AAT qualified) supporting the Faculty of Social Sciences. The Departmental Services team is primarily engaged in management accounting and Finance Business Partnering, and the successful candidate will have a portfolio of Departments which they are responsible for supporting directly. You will liaise directly with senior University management (including the Vice Provost/Chair of Faculty and Faculty Chief Operating Officer), Heads of Departments and other stakeholders and assist academic departments to deliver their financial and strategic objectives. Provision of financial advice and accurate and timely management information and analysis to aid planning, control and decision-making, specifically in the deployment of University resources and optimisation of income, is an essential part of this role.

The role works alongside the Finance Managers for the other Faculties, preparing quarterly forecasts and annually five-year plans for their Departmental portfolio, monitoring financial performance and explaining variances. The postholder acts as an advisor on financial matters for their Departmental portfolio, including discussing and influencing performance, preparing business cases for new activities, advising on compliance with Financial Regulations and disseminating financial management best practice.
