The University now invites applications for the following position:

Provost and Vice-President (Academic and Research) (Ref: PV/VPAR 2026-08-03)

Responsibilities:

The Provost and Vice-President (Academic and Research) is a key member of the senior management team and reports to the President.  He/she is primarily responsible for providing academic leadership to all School Deans, and through them, to all academic staff, in ensuring effectiveness and international competitiveness in the conduct of curriculum and programme development, academic quality assurance, student admission, research and academic staffing matters. He/She will also chair relevant Academic Board (AB) and Senior Management Committee (SMC) Committees as assigned by the President.

Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President (Academic and Research) are Deans of Schools, Director of Information Technology, Registrar, University Librarian, and university-level research centres.  More specific duties include:

  1. to provide leadership to the overall academic curriculum structure, programme development and quality assurance, in response to the University strategic directions, community needs and changing market situations;
  2. to develop research policies and strategies to promote academic and impactful research activities to the community;
  3. to oversee the recruitment, assessment, promotion and retention of quality academic staff;
  4. to oversee overall student admission policies, strategies and processes;
  5. to ensure the smooth management and operations of all academic programmes and matters;
  6. to oversee the policies, strategies and operations of continuing and professional education and knowledge exchange for the community;
  7. to oversee the development and performance of Schools/Departments/Units under supervision, review and monitoring of their strategic plans, budgets, outputs, efficient and effective use of financial, human and physical resources;
  8. to develop, in consultation with Deans and Heads of Departments, an effective performance management system for academic staff, including the setting of performance standards, and continuous staff professional development; and
  9. to oversee academic support units and research centres.

The Person

The ideal candidate should possess the following attributes:

  • academic distinction with an established record of scholarship, teaching and research excellence, and a clear commitment to advancing liberal arts education in conjunction with professional disciplines;
  • a forward-looking academic vision, with the ability to drive high-quality teaching and learning, student success, interdisciplinary development, innovation, and impactful research;
  • proven leadership experience in academic planning, quality assurance, programme development, faculty development and resource stewardship within a complex higher education environment;
  • strong strategic, analytical and commercial judgement, with the capability to translate institutional priorities into effective policies, initiatives, performance standards and measurable outcomes;
  • strong external engagement capability, supported by international networks and academic standing, to enhance the University’s visibility, strategic partnerships, reputation and influence regionally and globally; and
  • outstanding stakeholder management, communication and relationship-building skills, with the credibility and agility to engage effectively with students, faculty members, staff, Council members, alumni, donors and external partners.
