About Us

The Queen's Veterinary School Hospital (QVSH) is a leading multidisciplinary teaching hospital providing exceptional primary care and referral services while supporting the education of undergraduate and postgraduate veterinary students.

The Role

As a First Opinion Veterinary Nurse, you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day running of our General Practice and RSPCA clinics, delivering high-quality nursing care and helping to ensure an excellent experience for both patients and clients.

The role involves providing inpatient care, anaesthesia, sedation, and assisting with surgical, dental, and diagnostic imaging procedures. You will also help coordinate first-opinion cases, working closely with clinicians, nurses, students, and support staff across the hospital.

In addition, you will provide client-facing and administrative support, including appointment management, client communication, dispensing medications, maintaining accurate clinical records, and supporting pricing and invoicing processes. This is a varied role that is integral to the smooth and efficient delivery of high-quality veterinary care.

As the service develops, the post holder may be required to participate in an on-call rota, including some evening and weekend duties.

You will be passionate about veterinary nursing, committed to delivering excellent patient care, and confident in communicating with colleagues, students and clients. You will be organised, proactive, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
