Job description:

The Role

We are recruiting Clinical Teaching Fellows (CTF) for our Newcastle, UK campus.

This post is offered on a one-year fixed term contract commencing from August 2026.

There is potential for a second year in the post, subject to satisfactory performance in the role.

  • For this post we require highly motivated and enthusiastic doctors, who will be an important part of the School of Medicine team in Newcastle
  • This fixed-term development post offers doctors, with an interest in teaching, the opportunity to take time away from clinical practice to enhance their teaching skills, before returning to clinical practice as a more developed clinical educator
    • For this reason, previous holders of either our Clinical Teaching Fellow role or our Anatomy Teaching Fellow role are not eligible to apply,
    • N.B. Previously unsuccessful applicants are eligible to reapply. If so, please contact Andrea Cummings via andrea.cummings@newcastle.ac.uk or Leanne Bartle via leanne.bartle@newcastle.ac.uk directly as your previous application will have to be moved back to the new application section on our recruitment system and you can then refresh same.
  • You will be involved in the delivery of our MBBS curriculum to year 1 and 2 medical students for clinical skills
  • You will have the opportunity to contribute to education research projects and to the development of teaching and learning activities and resources
  • You will also be offered the opportunity to undertake the Certificate in Clinical Education
  • You are expected to have an MBBS degree, to be clinically active with a license to practice, to have relevant experience in the NHS, and to have completed your Foundation training (or equivalent) by August 2026.
  • There are no clinical, patient-facing duties within the clinical teaching fellow role.

The University has developed a Teaching and Scholarship Role Profiles.pdf document which summarises the range of activities that colleagues may be expected to perform.
