Aston University are looking to recruit for an exciting opportunity within a forward-thinking Health & Safety Team.  

As a H&S Business Partner, you will work with colleagues within your designated schools and departments to provide professional advice and assistance to ensure legal compliance and to incorporate best practice into all aspects of their operations. 

You will support the Head of H&S to deliver the objectives in the University’s H&S Strategy and drive the continuous improvement of H&S Management throughout the university. You will work closely with the H&S Responsible Person designated schools and departments to deliver a high quality service.

The role is advertised at 0.8 FTE - with the expectation being 4 days per week.

Duties include:

  • Support H&S best practice and compliance through coaching, mentoring and the identification, development and delivery of training to facilitate this;
  • Support the monitoring of risk assessment completion and quality of local arrangements across the ECD;
  • Coordinating health surveillance requirements have been adequately identified and where necessary referrals for tests are taken and recorded;
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with H&S legislation;
  • Attending the relevant H&S Committese and provide technical H&S advice;
  • Coordinate the development and maintenance of local systems and processes which enable active and reactive monitoring to take place such as inspection and audit;
  • Assisting with investigating accidents and incidents to determine their causes and make appropriate recommendations for improvements and preventative measures;
  • Undertaking training as required across all job disciplines in the H&S Unit to ensure continued customer service during absences

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Level 6 Qualification in Occupational Health & Safety Management or a willingness to work towards
  • Experience of managing or advising on H&S an educational environmental
  • Membership of IOSH or equivalent professional body
  • Good current knowledge of H&S legislation and regulations related to estates
