Carl-Friedrich-Gauß-Fakultät is announcing five interrelated assistant professorships in the field of data science. The goal is to promote research and teaching through synergies in legal, economic, social, security-related, and mathematical issues in the field of data science.

The professorship in Civil Law, Technology Law and Mobility Law is affiliated with the Institute for Legal Studies (IRW) within the Carl-Friedrich-Gauß-Fakultät. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching in the bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes in technology-oriented management, business informatics, and related interdisciplinary business programmes. Furthermore, the Institute is responsible for delivering cross-faculty teaching, including in the field of Technology Law. The appointee is expected to demonstrate the ability to teach and engage students from diverse academic backgrounds, including those with limited or no prior legal training, and to offer courses in both German and English.

The profile of the professorship is defined by its integration into interdisciplinary and collaborative structures within the university. The research focus lies in Civil Law, with particular emphasis on Technology Law and Mobility Law. A central area of research is the legal framework governing digital transformation and innovation in the mobility sector. In addition to demonstrated expertise in Technology Law, the candidate must provide evidence of comprehensive competence in Mobility Law, including but not limited to Data Protection Law, Data Law, Artificial Intelligence Law, IT Security Law, and Liability Law.

The university seeks an outstanding individual with a strong research profile and visible track record in Mobility Law and Technology Law. This should be evidenced by an outstanding doctoral degree, a substantial record of relevant publications, successful research projects and consultancy activities. The applicant is expected to demonstrate the capacity and willingness to assume academic co-leadership of the Research Centre for Mobility Law, including associated leadership and administrative responsibilities. Proven experience in the supervision of interdisciplinary, externally funded research projects and in personnel management is required, as is a demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration.

A strong commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including the supervision of interdisciplinary theses, is expected. The successful candidate must also be willing to actively participate in academic self-governance.

In accordance with the specific profile of this junior professorship, candidates must have successfully completed the First and Second German State Examinations in Law with above-average results.

To facilitate international research collaboration and academic networking, proficiency in German and English is required, along with competence in at least one additional official language of the European Union. The ability and willingness to teach courses in English are essential.

Even though this is a full-time position, a part-time appointment may be possible upon request.

Applicants (f/m/d) who are 50 years or older at the time the appointment commences and who have not acquired permanent civil servant status (Beamten­verhältnis auf Lebenszeit) will be employed with employee status (Angestellten­verhältnis).

The employment is initially for a period of three years in a temporary civil servant relationship, provided that the general service law requirements are fulfilled. In the event of a successful interim evaluation in accordance with §30 Para. 4 S. 2 NHG, the professorship will be extended by a further three years.
