The Borough Polytechnic Institute, the precursor to LSBU, was established over 130 years ago with a mission to enhance social mobility across south London by improving employment opportunities and providing access to the applied knowledge that would help businesses grow and succeed.
Since then, we have transformed lives, communities, businesses and society through applied education and insight. Today, we provide career pathways into key sectors including Health, Engineering, the Built Environment, Business and the Creative Industries.
Through the LSBU Group, a distinctive and ambitious education group, we offer these pathways across secondary, further and higher education, including as a leading provider of higher and degree apprenticeships.
As a leader in professional and technical education, in 2024 we introduced a new three-College academic structure, reinforcing our commitment to delivering applied education that equips students with the professional and technical knowledge employers need, together with the skills and experience to apply that expertise in the workplace. To support this ambition and strengthen our position as an internationally competitive technical university, we continue to expand our research activity in areas aligned with our mission, while deepening partnerships with business, industry and the professions.
We are now seeking an inspiring Executive Dean for the College of Health and Life Sciences. The successful candidate will share our mission, value and champion our diversity and distinctiveness, and work collaboratively with the constituent Schools and the wider University and Group community to celebrate our strengths while shaping an ambitious future for the College.
Reporting directly to the Provost, the Executive Dean will be a member of the University's Executive Board and will play a significant role in the leadership and future development of the University. They will champion the positive contribution the College and the University make as a civic institution and foster an inclusive, respectful culture that reflects our values.
The successful candidate will have a distinguished academic profile, excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills, and a proven track record of providing visionary, transformational leadership to multidisciplinary academic teams.
At LSBU, you'll contribute to a vibrant and dynamic culture that is driven by purpose, centred on people and enriched by diversity. You'll be trusted, supported and recognised for the unique contribution you bring.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the LSBU Group at a pivotal moment in its development and to help shape the future of one of London's leading civic and technical universities.
Applications, which should be in the form of a CV and cover letter, should be sent to execdeanlsbu@minervasearch.com by 28 September 2026.
Interviews will take place on 30 October 2026.
