Hours: Full time 36.5 hours per week). We welcome flexible working but ask that colleagues work on campus on Mondays and Thursdays.

About the role

Working closely with the Lab’s Manager, the Communication and Events Officer will proactively develop, present and analyse the effectiveness of content across the existing and future channels of the Lab, and its internal and external stakeholders. They will be responsible for growing the international visibility and impact of the Lab’s work, driving forward its web-based content, digital and in-person presence, ensuring the right tone of voice, brand look & feel depending on the communications audience. They will have a good understanding of the branding guidelines of both the University of Sussex, and the Lab, and accessibility requirements.

The Communications and Events Officer will have good knowledge and a passion for creating content, playing a key role in delivering vibrant and engaging content for the website, social media, e-newsletters and digital platforms. They will coordinate content from a range of internal and external stakeholders; drive our online presence, increase awareness and understanding of the Lab’s work and grow our international community, attracting our target audiences to join in-person and online activities and platforms. This will involve communicating with participants of our many in-person international events, and representing the Lab at these sessions, to be held across Europe, Australia, and Brazil.

About you

We are looking for a passionate and organised creative communicator who has at least 2 years’ experience in a similar role. You must be a team player who is committed to delivering communications that improve our impact and grow the diversity of participants who become involved in our work. Creating and delivering content to digital channels across web, social media, e-newsletters and direct email and video call communication, you will have a strong attention to detail and be confident in identifying and using appropriate software to deliver content. You will be a confident writer and proof-reader and be able to create layouts for publications and posters.

You will be sensitive to the need to adapt communication approaches and tone dependent on audience and have experience of intercultural communication. Video creation and editing preferable as well as excellent admin skills. You will be capable of using Microsoft packages, Adobe inDesign, Photoshop, Premier and Canva. There is currently no line management attached to this role. I look forward to your application for this role.
