About the role:

The Future Medicines Institute (FMI) is a new, industry-led research and innovation hub for Life and Health Sciences in Northern Ireland, based at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB). Co-founded by a consortium of Northern Ireland’s leading pharmaceutical, diagnostics, and health analytics companies, together with QUB and Ulster University, FMI brings together world-class expertise and state-of-the-art facilities in a collaborative, translational research environment. Our goal is to tackle today’s most urgent health challenges through cutting-edge advancements in precision medicine, novel therapeutics, next-generation diagnostics, and transformative healthcare technologies.

The successful candidate will join FMI’s multidisciplinary medicinal chemistry and chemical biology team, providing hands-on technical support across compound synthesis, purification, analytical workflows and preparation of screening plates. The role will involve managing compound libraries, databases, reagents and key laboratory equipment, while working closely with medicinal chemists, screening scientists, biologists and analytical specialists to support the delivery of small molecule induced proximity libraries, chemical probes and other compound collections for biological evaluation.

About the Person:

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:

• Academic and/or vocational qualifications, for example OND/ONC, NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, degree-level qualification or equivalent experience in chemistry, medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical science, analytical chemistry, chemical biology or a relevant subject.
• Significant relevant experience working in a research, chemistry, pharmaceutical, analytical or drug discovery laboratory environment.
• Practical experience in analytical and compound purification techniques, such as HPLC, preparative LC, automated compound purification or related methods.
• Experience of compound, reagent, consumable and/or laboratory stock management.
• Experience of lab project supervision.
