The School of Cardiovascular & Metabolic Medicine & Sciences (SCMMS) provides an outstanding multi-disciplinary environment for the pursuit of cutting-edge cardiovascular and metabolic research.

We study the fundamental molecular, cellular, and physiological processes that underly normal and abnormal cardiovascular and metabolic function and we drive the translation of this strong basic science into advances in clinical practice to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment. This activity provides a high-quality research and training environment for non-clinical and clinical scientists.

The School occupies facilities across the Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Denmark Hill campuses of King’s College London and comprises over 65 academic research groups, hosting 300 staff and 100 PhD students.

The post holder is a member of the School’s professional services team who provides high quality technical support to the community of academic investigators interested in cardiovascular research in the School.

This Technician post will be based at James Black Centre (Denmark Hill), and will provide comprehensive operational and technical support within a laboratory environment, encompassing the maintenance of consumables, equipment, inventories, and service facilities, as well as participation in key operational rotas. The post holder will apply a broad range of technical skills, support Health & Safety compliance, contribute to sustainability initiatives, and deliver training and guidance to staff and students, including new-user training for specialist facilities. The position involves managing a varied workload, resolving routine and complex issues, management of essential resources, and ensuring effective communication across research teams to deliver high quality technical support. The role also includes engaging in professional development, building networks within King’s, and fostering an inclusive, safe, and efficient working environment.

This is a full time, and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

Technical staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development. This entitlement, from the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, applies to Postdocs, Research Assistants, Research and Teaching Technicians, Teaching Fellows and AEP equivalent up to and including grade 7.
