Quality Assurance & Regulation Manager

ICAS

Permanent, 0.8 FTE

Location: Edinburgh (hybrid working)

Who we are

We’re ICAS – a global professional membership organisation and business network for Chartered Accountants. We’re an educator, regulator, examiner, and a professional awarding body. Our smart and talented team comes from all walks of life. With a relaxed dynamic and a collaborative spirit, we take care of each other while supporting a vibrant, global membership

What’s the job?

Working at the heart of our Quality and Standards function, this is an exciting opportunity as one of two QA & Regulation Managers to play a leading managerial role in ensuring regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.

The Quality Assurance & Regulation Manager plays a critical role in ensuring that ICAS qualifications and processes consistently meet regulatory requirements, uphold strong governance, and deliver fair, transparent outcomes for all students.

You will manage a defined portfolio of regulatory and quality assurance activity, acting as a key link between ICAS and external regulator(s), as well as internal panels and groups. This includes supporting regulatory reporting and audits, providing secretariat support to senior board(s), including the Qualifications Board and ensuring that governance processes are robust, compliant, and effectively implemented.

A central aspect of the role is the management of complex and sensitive student cases, special considerations and incident reviews, ensuring decisions are evidence-based, policy-aligned, and consistently applied. You will also oversee critical assurance processes such as incident management review, safeguarding log, reasonable adjustment reviews, conflict of interest and policy review cycles, driving continuous improvement across quality and standards activity.

Working collaboratively across ICAS and with external regulator(s) you will contribute to a culture of integrity, accuracy and continuous improvement, ensuring the organisation maintains confidence with regulators, firms, students and the profession.

Who do we need?

We are looking for a highly organised and analytical professional who is confident operating in a regulated or governance led environment. Ideally you will bring experience of working with external regulators or within a quality assurance, compliance or awarding context, alongside the ability to interpret complex requirements and translate them into clear, practical actions.

You will demonstrate excellent judgement when handling sensitive and confidential information, with thorough attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy. Your ability to analyse information, develop evidence-based recommendations, and present findings clearly to senior stakeholders will be essential.

Excellent interpersonal skills are key. You will be comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders, from regulators and board members to internal teams, and able to build credibility through clear, professional communication.

You will also be adaptable and resilient, able to manage competing priorities and respond to changing regulatory demands or peaks in casework activity. Experience within an awarding organisation, professional body or higher education environment, alongside an understanding of qualification frameworks and regulatory expectations, would be advantageous.

Above all, we are looking for someone who brings integrity, sound judgement and a commitment to maintaining high standards, someone who can both protect and enhance the quality and credibility of our qualifications.
