We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and organised Research Assistant to join the newly established Protein Production Platform at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences Oxford Institute (COI). This is an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research developing innovative immunotherapies and vaccines for cancer and infectious diseases. Working within the Dr Ricardo A. Fernandes research group, you will play a key role in supporting the design, production and characterisation of recombinant proteins and molecular biology reagents that will enable world-class research across the Institute.
You will provide technical and administrative support to ensure the efficient running of the Protein Production Platform by designing, expressing and purifying recombinant proteins, performing molecular cloning and protein characterisation assays, maintaining cell cultures and laboratory stocks, managing reagents and inventories, collecting and analysing scientific data, and contributing to publications and presentations. You will also help ensure the smooth running of the laboratory, support colleagues through training where appropriate, and work collaboratively with researchers across the Institute to deliver high-quality research outcomes.
It is essential that you hold a degree in biochemistry, cell biology, biotechnology, chemistry or a related discipline and experience in a life sciences laboratory. You should have practical experience in molecular cloning and routine laboratory techniques, an understanding of recombinant protein expression and purification, excellent organisational and communication skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Experience in protein expression and purification, mammalian cell culture, CRISPR or lentiviral techniques, immunoblotting, scientific writing, and software such as FlowJo, SnapGene, PyMOL or Chimera would be advantageous.
