Are you passionate about supporting students and making a positive difference to their university experience? We are looking for a proactive and approachable Residences Officer to join our Student Services team, providing vital out-of-hours support to students living in University accommodation. Working as part of a dedicated residential support team, you will help create a safe, welcoming and inclusive community where students can thrive, while promoting positive behaviour, wellbeing and community standards.

This varied and rewarding role combines student support, safeguarding, welfare response and accommodation operations. You will be a key point of contact for students during evenings and overnight periods, responding to welfare concerns, undertaking wellbeing checks, managing incidents, supporting Student Wardens and working closely with colleagues across Student Services, Security, Estates and the Students’ Union. The role requires sound judgement, resilience and excellent interpersonal skills, with opportunities to make a meaningful impact on students during some of the most important and challenging moments of their university journey.

As an out-of-hours position, the role follows 4 nights on, 3 nights off rota, averaging 37 hours per week, and is ideally suited to someone who enjoys working independently, building positive relationships with students and contributing to a supportive residential environment outside normal University working hours.

Experience/Qualifications:

We are looking for someone with experience of working with students, young people or in a customer-facing support environment, who can demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will be confident working independently, remain calm under pressure and have the ability to respond sensitively and professionally to a range of welfare, behavioural and accommodation-related situations.

Experience of supporting wellbeing, safeguarding or residential communities would be advantageous, as would experience of working in a higher education, housing, hospitality or similar setting. A commitment to providing excellent student support, maintaining accurate records and working collaboratively with colleagues is essential.
