The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Liverpool invites applications for a Lecturer in Mechanics of Solids (Teaching & Research track).
We are seeking an ambitious and collaborative researcher with the potential to develop an internationally recognised research profile in areas related to mechanics of solids. We welcome applications from candidates working in mechanics of solids and related fields, including structural mechanics, strength of materials, fracture mechanics, fatigue, structural integrity, computational mechanics, experimental mechanics, multiscale modelling, materials mechanics and digital engineering for structural systems. Applications aligned with national priorities in industrial resilience, sustainability, aerospace, energy, defence or advanced manufacturing are particularly encouraged.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic and growing department at the centre of major institutional investment in resilience, sustainability, and engineering innovation. Supported by significant investment in research infrastructure, laboratories, and interdisciplinary capability, you will have the opportunity to develop internationally competitive research programmes, secure external funding, establish industrial and governmental partnerships, and contribute to high-impact translational research.
The Department works closely with colleagues across engineering, materials, manufacturing, and digital technologies, providing a highly collaborative environment for interdisciplinary research and teaching. The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching while helping shape the future direction of research in mechanics of solids within the School of Engineering.
The University of Liverpool is committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment and welcomes applications from candidates from all backgrounds and communities. Flexible working and family-friendly policies are available to support colleagues at all career stages.
Interviews and candidate presentations will take place on 23rd September 2026 in Liverpool.
