The Allied Clinical Health Hub provides specialist clinical teaching, simulation and patient-facing facilities that support healthcare education across a range of disciplines including Podiatry, Speech and Language Therapy, Dietetics and Healthcare Science. 

We are looking for a proactive Senior Technician to support the wide range of activities delivered within the Allied Clinical Health Hub, helping to provide an outstanding learning and clinical environment for students, staff and external partners.

As the primary technical support for the Allied Clinical Health Hub, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our clinical environments, specialist equipment and resources are safe, operational and ready for use. 

This is a varied role that combines practical technical support, simulation technologies, equipment maintenance, clinical skills support and working collaboratively with colleagues across the School and wider University. 

The role includes the opportunity to develop clinical skills through phlebotomy training and support the School’s phlebotomy activities.

You’ll play a key role in:

  • Preparing and supporting clinical, teaching and simulation activities, ensuring facilities, equipment and resources are ready for use. 
  • Supporting simulation-based learning through the setup, operation and maintenance of simulation manikins, clinical skills equipment and specialist digital technologies, including VR and audiovisual systems. 
  • Maintaining specialist equipment, and managing consumables and stock to ensure facilities remain safe, operational and fully resourced. 
  • Providing technical guidance, training and support to students, staff and external partners in the effective use of facilities, equipment and simulation technologies. 
  • Supporting safe working practices including infection prevention and control, risk assessment and the safe management of clinical waste. 
  • Working collaboratively with academic staff, clinical colleagues and external partners to support teaching, research and innovation activities, including developing clinical skills through phlebotomy training. 

What you’ll bring

  • You’ll have experience of providing technical support within a specialist technical, healthcare, simulation, laboratory or similar environment. 
  • You’ll be organised, adaptable and able to work independently, using your technical knowledge and practical skills to support a range of users and activities.
  • You’ll have experience maintaining specialist equipment and facilities, supporting practical activities, and working safely within a regulated environment. 
  • You’ll also have the communication skills needed to build positive relationships with students, academics, clinical colleagues and external partners.

Additionally, you’ll:

  • Have experience supporting practical, clinical, teaching or simulation activities through the preparation and maintenance of facilities, equipment and resources. 
  • Have experience maintaining specialist equipment and ensuring resources are safe, functional and fit for purpose. 
  • Have knowledge and understanding of health and safety requirements within a clinical, laboratory or technical environment. 
  • Be confident providing technical guidance, support and training to a range of users. 
  • Have strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise a varied workload and work independently. 
  • Have excellent IT skills and the ability to learn and apply digital technologies relevant to the role, including simulation and audiovisual technologies. 
  • Be willing and able to undertake role-related training, including phlebotomy and designated health and safety responsibilities.
