Heritage Quay has an exciting opportunity for a Cataloguing Officer (Music Collections) to join the team at our multi-award-winning archive service. The archive service has recently acquired a series of internationally significant music collections and is seeking a cataloguer to help us make them available to researchers.
The successful candidate will work with the team at Heritage Quay to ensure that the collections are catalogued and managed to the highest professional standards, and to enable teaching, research and wider public engagement with these collections both now and in the future. This will include the recruitment and supervision of student placements and volunteers.
The Cataloguing Officer will play a pivotal role in the appraisal, description, arrangement, cataloguing, conservation and preservation of selected music archives, including Victor Schonfield, Ralph Walter Wood, David Hellewell and Eleanor Alberga. These collections include music manuscripts, recordings in a variety of formats, scores and personal papers.
You will have experience of working in an Archives, Library, Records Management or Museum Service undertaking arrangement and cataloguing, appraisal and digital preservation work. We are seeking someone with knowledge of mixed media and modern music collections who is working towards or holds a degree/post graduate qualification in archives; records management; information management or has equivalent experience.
Awareness of legislation including copyright and data protection as applicable to archives is essential. Knowledge of digital archives and digital preservation to recognised standards is also required, together with experience of answering enquiries and liaising with stakeholders.
We offer an excellent employment package, including hybrid working, blending a mix of remote and on-campus working (dependent on work duties).
