About The Role

Lecturer in Law (Education and Scholarship)

This full-time post will commence on 1st January 2027 (or earlier date by agreement).

The starting salary will be from £43,482 up to £53,301 on Grade F, depending on knowledge, skills and experience.

The role

We are seeking to appoint a new Lecturer in Law (E&S) to support the delivery of teaching. We are especially interested in hearing from you if you can offer teaching in Criminal Law and/or Constitutional, EU & Human Rights with the ability to contribute to other modules including Contract Law, the Law of Torts and Employment Law a benefit. We are seeking applications from candidates with an academic or professional background and an interest in developing pedagogies in legal education will be an asset.

The successful candidate will join a thriving law programme, based at our Penryn campus in Cornwall. Our offering to students in Cornwall is unique; our law degrees form part of a portfolio of programmes run in collaboration with our Business School, namely the LLB Law with Business and BBL Bachelor of Business with Laws. We also have plans to expand delivery to new inter-disciplinary programmes. Our pedagogical approach is different from many traditional law schools, with a much stronger focus on experiential learning. This includes significant amounts of small group task-based working and research projects as part of the curriculum.

The post will include working as part of a small team to design and deliver excellent teaching. The position would suit an outstanding teacher who has a passion for education and learning, and for developing students to realise their full potential.

About you

For a Lecturer post you will:

  • possess a depth or breadth of specialist knowledge demonstrated by a PhD and/or established experience in legal academia or legal practice, demonstrating the core knowledge relating to law in order to teach and support learning on law modules and to develop teaching programmes;
  • use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students;
  • participate in and develop external networks, for example, to contribute to student recruitment, secure student placements, facilitate outreach work, generate income, obtain consultancy projects, or build relationships for future activities;
  • have evidence of excellent teaching identified by peer review and have made an impact at discipline programme level beyond your own teaching; and
  • be expected to work towards Fellow of the HEA and to attend formal CPD relating to this.

Please ensure that you read the Job Description and Person Specification for full details of this role.

What we can offer you:

  • Freedom (and the support) to pursue your intellectual interests and to work creatively across disciplines;
  • support teams that understand the University-wide teaching goals and partner with our academics accordingly;
  • an Innovation, Impact and Business directorate that works closely with our academics, providing specialist support for external engagement and development;
  • our Exeter Academic initiative, which supports high performing academics to achieve their potential and develop their career;
  • a multitude of staff benefits including sector leading benefits around maternity, adoption and shared parental leave (up to 26 weeks’ full pay), paternity leave (up to 6 weeks’ full pay), and a new Fertility Treatment Policy; and
  • a beautiful campus set in the heart of stunning Cornwall.
