The Role

We are recruiting for 2 x Academic Tutors to join our existing team and welcome applications from candidates with practical experience in:

  • Power Systems & Machines
  • Analogue & Digital Electronics
  • Control & Automation
  • Robotics

As part of your role you will be delivering labs, supporting other academic colleagues in their teaching and leading on outreach and recruitment events. You will also be supporting   students on their employability journey by supervising placements and engaging with our industry partners to enhance our academic delivery offer.  These are brand new roles to our team and therefore you can really make an impact on how the role is delivered.   We are looking for people with a passion for Engineering to engage our students and provide excellent student experiences. You will be supported by the wider academic team in your role.

Applicants should have an awareness of the current trends, issues, and developments in electrical/electronic engineering both nationally and internationally, and will be expected to demonstrate an applied understanding of current industry developments during the selection process.

You do not need previous experience of teaching, as this is a great opportunity for an applicant with practical industry experience  or if you are a professional already teaching in an FE environment  with a desire to inspire the next generation of Electrica/Electronic/Mechatronic Engineers.

The subject group also leads the MSc Electrical & Electronic Engineering course and teaches extensively across the MSc Engineering portfolio as well as the Degree Apprenticeship Programs. We also make a significant contribution to other engineering BEng and MSc programmes in the department and the delivery of degree apprenticeship courses across the University.

The Team

You will be a key member of the Electrical Electronic and Future Technologies team, helping to maintain and to expand the success of the department's courses in this area. Our courses are highly regarded across the profession and founded upon over 30 years of related teaching here at SHU.

Our courses are accredited by the relevant professional bodies, and staff members are encouraged to be active within them. Courses within our departmental portfolio are accredited by the following UK professional bodies: IET
