The School of Social Sciences seeks to appoint a full-time Lecturer in Sociology.

You will join the Sociology team within the School of Social Sciences and develop an active programme of internationally excellent research, contributing to Lancaster Sociology's globally renowned profile for impactful research and interdisciplinary collaborations. They will also contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, doctoral supervision, and the wider academic life of the discipline. The post offers an exciting opportunity to join one of the UK's leading Sociology groups.

We are interested in candidates whose research is informed by Science and Technology Studies (STS), broadly defined and who examine major contemporary social-technical transformations. These could be associated with areas contemporary developments in digitalisation, data, artificial intelligence, automation, sustainability transitions, and/or changing relationships between science, technology, policy, and society. We also welcome applicants whose work addresses questions of ethics, equity, governance, trust, expertise, and misinformation.

You should demonstrate how this STS-informed approach is developed, or has the potential to be developed, in relation to one or more substantive areas of sociology, including:

  • sociology of the environment; 
  • sociology of health; 
  • sociology of work; and/or 
  • sociology of welfare. 

You will hold a PhD in Sociology or a closely related discipline and will demonstrate excellence, or clear potential, in research and teaching. You will have an emerging publication profile appropriate to career stage, experience of delivering high-quality teaching and supporting an excellent student experience, and a clear commitment to developing an ambitious programme of research. You will build interdisciplinary collaborations, contribute to and lead externally funded research projects, and support postgraduate research through doctoral supervision as part of Lancaster Sociology's research community.
