About Us: KIMEP University School of Law is a professional training academy dedicated to instilling knowledge of Law, lawyering skills and professional identity in students, advancing scholarship and supporting legal practice and the Rule of Law in Kazakhstan and Central Asia. The Law School is committed to fostering a creative and dynamic academic environment, with an emphasis on Experiential Learning and relevance to national and international legal communities. We are licensed by the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan to confer the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) with an emphasis in either Jurisprudence or International Law, the Master of Laws (LL.M.) and are currently seeking approval to offer a doctoral degree.

Position Overview: We seek an engaged Dean and (Associate/Full) Professor of Law or Practice to lead our Law School to provide strategic leadership and strategic management in the academic and operational development of the School.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervises directors, faculty, and staff; oversees students.
  • Approves curricula, syllabi and academic schedules of students.
  • Oversees hiring and orientation procedures.
  • Approves scheduling of classes, examinations, tests, and regulates execution.
  • Monitors and regulates academic processes, including academic workshops and professional internships.
  • Ensures implementation of University-wide policies and regulations within the College.
  • Responsible for the proper use and allocation of all resources - physical, information, human and financial, within budget.
  • Contributes fully to the University’s planning and communications efforts. 11. Leads development of Law School strategic plan.
  • Chairs the College Council of the School of Law.
  • Assures the ongoing quality of teaching, research and service.
  • Acts as the ambassador of the Law School and the University to the Legal Community and other constituents/stakeholders.
  • Operates as a member of the President’s outer Cabinet, when invited.
  • Works to strengthen and develop material and technical facilities of college.
  • Evaluates Faculty annually on teaching, research and service, and other staff with regard to their specific duties.
  • Undertakes such duties as may be commensurate with the post as required from time to time by the VPAA or his/her proxy.

Teaching requirement:

1 course per year

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in law, a Juris Doctor (J.D.) is preferred.
  • Ideally at least 10 years of university teaching or practice of law or other relevant work experience requiring a terminal law degree.
  • Proven leadership and organizational skills, with experience in managing multinational and interdisciplinary teams, and with project management.
  • Write and speak fluent professional-level English.
  • Meets Kazakhstan government requirements for university employment and immigration status, if applicable.
  • Evidence of excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills with the ability to influence others effectively.

Additional preferred Qualifications:

  • Competence in professional-level Russian and Kazakh languages.
  • Substantial experience in higher education leadership, preferably as a Dean or Associate Dean.
  • Working knowledge of both Common and Civil law systems, to include AIFC practice.
  • Active participation in the International Association of Law Schools and/or Association of American Law Schools.
