Main duties and responsibilities

Faculty of Business and Law

De Montfort University (DMU) is seeking to appoint an outstanding academic leader to the role of Head of School, Accounting, Finance and Economics, within the Faculty of Business and Law. Role

The Head of School will provide strategic and operational leadership for the School of Accounting, Finance and Economics, ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality teaching, research, knowledge exchange and innovation activities. Working closely with the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean, Deputy Dean and Faculty Executive, you will play a key role in delivering the faculty and university strategy while driving performance across all aspects of the school.

As a member of the Faculty Leadership Team, you will lead the school's planning, development, people, resources and performance, with responsibility for workforce planning, budget management, student number planning, income generation and risk management. You will champion an inclusive and performance-focused culture, supporting colleagues to excel while ensuring an outstanding experience and outcomes for students.

Supporting collaborative working across the faculty and wider university, a key emphasis of the role will be to enhance the school's profile, reputation and reach. This includes leading recruitment and outreach activity, developing strategic partnerships with businesses and external organisations, engaging with local, regional and international communities, and ensuring the school's portfolio remains responsive to the evolving needs of students, employers and the wider economy.

Ideal Candidate

You will be an accomplished academic leader with a doctorate, or equivalent academic standing, in a discipline relevant to Accounting, Finance or Economics. You will bring substantial experience of operating in a senior leadership role within a large and complex organisation, with a proven ability to develop and deliver strategic priorities, manage significant staffing and budget responsibilities, and lead high-performing teams.

You will have a strong track record of leadership across learning and teaching, research, knowledge exchange and innovation, alongside significant experience of workforce planning, student number planning and business risk management. Experience of developing academic portfolios at undergraduate and postgraduate level, increasing student recruitment through outreach activity, and building impactful partnerships with businesses and external stakeholders will be essential.
