The Institute of Economics announces an open call for applications for the position of Assistant Professor (part-time) for a definite-term (until 31 December 2030).

Expected earliest start date: spring semester 2026/27

Job description and basic requirements

Teaching duties:

  • Teaching of subjects belonging to the education portfolio of the advertising Institute in weekly class hours as defined by the University’s Academic Career Model. 

Research duties:

  • Writing articles in prestigious international and domestic journals in the field of empirical economics, particularly labour economics and related fields, including education economics, public economics, health economics, demographic economics, and other areas of applied microeconomics.
  • Participating at important international and domestic conferences, building international scientific relationships, getting involved in research projects, active research application activity in the field of empirical labour economics and related areas of applied microeconomics thus securing the resources of the research projects and contributing to the internationalisation of the Institute and the University.

Service duties:

  • Active participation in the professional life of the advertising Institute and the University, performing service tasks determined by the head of the Institute.
  • Supporting early-career academics at the university, supervising PhD students, as well as students participating in student competitions

Basic requirements

  • appropriate teaching/research experience in higher education,
  • an outstanding teaching and research record in their branch of science;
  • independent research activity;
  • ability to teach in a foreign language, and to act as a subject leader.

Documents and certificates to be submitted as part of the application

  • Application in English (a single PDF file) that includes
    • detailed curriculum vitae (CV) with a summary of educational, research and community service achievements;
    • cover letter explaining the reasons for applying and the contribution the applicant intends to make to the Institute’s work (also specifying gross salary expectations);
    • scanned copies of the documents verifying the university degreesacademic degree (e.g. PhD degree), and of the documents verifying other professional qualifications. (In case of scientific academic degrees obtained abroad, the nostrification will be arranged in the next phase of the selection procedure);
    • up to two publications; this may include working papers, doctoral dissertations, job market papers;
    • at least two professional references (one of which must be from a Hungarian expert if the call is published in Hungarian);

Remuneration and benefits

  • favourable conditions regarding research facilities, data access;
  • time devoted to research, travel support, etc.;
  • a competitive salary is accompanied by a maximum of 15% annual performance bonus in case of outstanding performance;
  • one-off relocation allowance for applicants moving to Hungary;
  • cafeteria fringe benefit;
  • place of work: Budapest.
