Applications are now open for the 2027/28 entry to the Max Weber Postdoctoral Programme at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy.
The Max Weber Programme ranks among the most prestigious, competitive, and innovative postdoctoral programmes in the historical, humanities, and social sciences. It is located in an exceptionally beautiful setting with truly outstanding faculty, and research and training facilities. As a multidisciplinary programme, it offers fully funded postdoctoral fellowships to applicants from anywhere in the world in the fields of economics, history, law, and social and political sciences (broadly defined). All areas and types of research within these fields are considered. Applicants can apply to be affiliated with one of the EUI’s four departments (Economics, History, Law and Political and Social Sciences), the Robert Schuman Centre or the Florence School of Transnational Governance. Each year, around 40 new Max Weber Fellows join the EUI.
Applicants must be within five years of the award of their PhD. Preference is given to those who have recently completed their doctorate, have not previously held a postdoctoral position, and/or are on the academic or research-oriented job market. The Programme has a very strong track record of supporting Fellows in securing positions in academia and other research-related careers.
In addition to fellowships funded directly by the Max Weber Programme, a number of dedicated grants are available for applicants from Greece, Japan, and Poland. Please consult the Programme website for the specific conditions attached to these grants. Suitable applicants of any nationality may also apply for an additional year at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva (one available fellowship). Candidates applying for affiliation with the Department of History may also indicate their interest in an affiliation with the Alcide de Gasperi Research Centre at the EUI.
