The Department of Computer Science and Technology is an academic department that encompasses Computer Science along with many aspects of Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. With around 340 academic staff, researchers and PhD students, the Department has an international reputation for research excellence and innovation.
Our success is built on attracting and supporting talented staff and creating a stimulating environment that promotes a strong sense of community whilst valuing and recognising individual contribution. We are seeking an experienced HR professional to join us as HR Manager on a nine-month fixed-term basis or secondment opportunity, providing cover during the secondment of the current role holder. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the Department through a busy academic year.
This is an excellent opportunity for an internal candidate looking to broaden their HR experience and gain exposure to a wide range of people management issues in an active teaching and research department within the School of Technology. Applications are particularly welcomed from existing University HR professionals looking to further develop their careers.
As HR Manager, you will be responsible for providing accurate and timely advice and guidance to staff on HR related matters across the employee lifecycle. In this varied and rewarding role, you will work collaboratively with senior members of the Department to develop, implement and maintain the Department's HR strategy. You will promote best practice in line with the University's policies and procedures and support areas such as recruitment, probation, staff review and development, capability and sickness absence processes. Key to your success in this role will be your ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues at all levels.
Previous experience at HR Manager level is not essential, provided candidates can demonstrate the skills and experience required to succeed in the role. Candidates should, however, have a strong understanding of HR policies, procedures and processes within the University of Cambridge.
