Research Associate in Health Economics

About us:

King's Health Economics consists of a team of health economists with expertise in designing and conducting high quality economic evaluations of healthcare programmes and policies that contribute to healthcare policy and practice in the UK and abroad. We work with research and clinical teams, local and national government agencies, non-statutory sector, and commercial organisations across the UK and in many other countries around the world.

This post is based in the Health Service & Population Research Department (HSPR) at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, King’s College London. HSPR is a multidisciplinary department that conducts world-leading research using the health and social sciences to better understand and improve health outcomes, systems, and care, both locally and globally, with a particular focus on mental health and other disadvantaged and marginalised populations.

The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) is a Faculty of King's College London and the largest academic community in Europe devoted to the study and prevention of mental illness and brain disease. The IoPPN's greatest strength is the interdisciplinary nature of both its research strategy and educational activities, providing unique opportunities for students and staff. 

About the role:

We are looking to recruit a self-motivated health economist to undertake economic analyses on a portfolio of projects at King’s Health Economics.

These projects will include economic evaluations of mental health conditions including psychosis, depression, and anxiety disorder as well as interventions for diabetes and to support people moving on from homelessness.

The role will be based within King’s Health Economics (KHE) which is situated at the Denmark Hill campus.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an a fixed-term contract until 31st August 2028 with the view to extend, funding permitted.

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

• Postgraduate degree in health economics or related subject (economics, statistics, etc.)
• *PhD awarded in relevant subject area (or pending results)
• Experience of applied health economics research and/or health technology assessment
• Experience of statistical/ econometric packages (e.g. STATA, R)
• Good knowledge of economic evaluation methods and their application
• Excellent quantitative/statistical skills
• Good written communication skills - ability to write coherently about a range of topics and to target writing to a range of audiences
• Knowledge of economic modelling techniques

Desirable criteria

• Experience of economic modelling techniques
• Knowledge of the healthcare system in the UK
• Evidence of peer-reviewed publications
• Knowledge of mental health conditions

* Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6.
