About the role:

The Electrochemical Science and Engineering (ESE) Group at Imperial College London is a world-leading, multidisciplinary research team working at the forefront of electrochemical device innovation for automotive and stationary power applications. Bringing together more than 70 researchers and professionals across mechanical, design, chemical and physical engineering disciplines, the group addresses some of the most pressing challenges in clean energy and sustainable technology.

Our research spans a broad portfolio of cutting-edge technologies, including lithium-ion, lithium-sulfur, sodium-ion and lithium-metal batteries, redox flow cells, PEM fuel cells, supercapacitors, advanced 3D imaging and tomography, techno-economic analysis, and additive manufacturing. A major focus of our work is improving battery performance and accelerating the deployment of technologies that support the transition to a low-carbon future through close collaboration with academic institutions, industry partners, research councils and the Faraday Institution.

We are seeking a Project Manager to play a pivotal role in supporting the delivery and growth of this dynamic research portfolio. The successful candidate will oversee pre- and post-award financial management, lead stakeholder and partnership engagement across our academic, industrial and funding networks, and help ensure that research activities are delivered effectively and aligned with collaborator needs. The role will also contribute to the wider operational management of the ESE Group, supporting its continued success as a leading centre for electrochemical science and engineering research.

What you would be doing:

  • You will manage a diverse portfolio of research projects, overseeing project delivery, finances and operational activities. Working closely with researchers, collaborators and professional services teams, you will ensure projects are delivered successfully, resources are effectively managed, compliance requirements are met, and the group’s activities and achievements are promoted.
  • You will lead engagement with industry, academic and funding partners, building strong collaborative relationships and supporting the development of new opportunities. Working closely with researchers and stakeholders, you will coordinate funding applications, manage reporting and communications, support intellectual property processes, and promote the impact and visibility of the Group’s research and achievements.

What we are looking for:

  • You have experience in project and/or programme management in a research (or similar) environment.
  • You have an understanding of engineering enough to hold a conversation with experts. A specific understanding of energy technologies would be a benefit.
  • You are a good communicator who can lead and manage individuals to ensure the successful delivery of outputs.
  • You have demonstrable financial management ability.
  • You have experience of customer engagement, including presenting project outputs to external stakeholders.

What we can offer you:

  • The opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading institution
  • Sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 41 days off a year)
