Educational Scholarship Scientist

Applications are invited for an Educational Scholarship Scientist to work with Professor Sophie Park, the Undergraduate Primary Care Medical Education team, and Workforce and Learning Research Group (https://www.phc.ox.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/undergraduate-study / https://www.phc.ox.ac.uk/research/groups-and-centres/workforce-and-learning-research-group).

We are seeking an experienced and motivated researcher to contribute to the development of educational scholarship and workforce research in primary care. The postholder will work collaboratively to strengthen the evidence base underpinning primary care education, workforce development, and the design and organisation of primary healthcare services.

The successful applicant will have a background in the social sciences, humanities, medical sciences or a related discipline, and experience of empirical research approaches (such as evaluation studies) and evidence synthesis methods (for example realist approaches). They will have experience of working with students, stakeholders and public contributors (PPI), and a strong interest in supporting capacity building in primary care research and education.

The role will involve supporting a range of student research activities, including medical student Special Study Modules, Final Honours School projects, NIHR School of Primary Care Research internships, and visiting electives, as well as DPhil supervision. The postholder will support students to develop research ideas, complete projects, and produce high-quality outputs.

You will be expected to support and apply for grant applications over time, to generate income and further research opportunities.

This post offers an opportunity to contribute to an emerging area of strategic importance, strengthening the connections between primary care education, workforce development, and the delivery of high-quality patient care.

You will have a doctoral degree (e.g. PhD/DPhil) in a relevant subject (e.g. in fields of medical education, primary care, public health, health psychology, sociology, evidence synthesis), with post-qualification research experience, and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline (workforce, primary care, continuity, general practice sustainability) and approach (realist and qualitative methods) to inform research and develop future research projects and methodologies.

You will be based in the Gibson Building, Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, Radcliffe Primary Care Building, Woodstock Road, Oxford, OX2 6GG as your normal place of work, but there may be the opportunity for some remote working to be agreed with your line manager.

This post is permanent, and is offered full time, although part-time (0.8 FTE) can be considered.
