About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed academic to join Te Kura Toi Tangata School of Education at the University of Waikato as a Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor in Arts Education.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the teaching, research and professional activities of a School committed to enhancing education through high-quality teaching, research and professional service. The successful applicant will contribute to our initial teacher education programmes, with expertise in Arts Education within areas such as Dance, Drama, Music and Visual Art.

You will contribute to research-informed teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, supervise postgraduate students, and maintain an active programme of research and scholarship. The role also includes opportunities to contribute to professional, community, iwi and outreach activities, as well as School and University administration.

The position is based in Hamilton and may involve teaching online or at both our Hamilton and Tauranga campuses. The role reports to the Head of School Te Kura Toi Tangata School of Education.

Salary will be dependent on the level of appointment in the range of $92,603 to $166,176 per year based on skills, knowledge and experience brought to the position. This is a permanent full-time position (37.5 hours a week), based at our Hamilton Campus.

Who are you?

We are seeking an academic with expertise in Arts Education and initial teacher education, with strong knowledge of the New Zealand Curriculum and experience across primary and/or secondary settings.

You will bring:

• A relevant PhD or be working towards completion at Lecturer level.
• A recognised teaching qualification and current NZ practising certificate, or willingness to obtain/renew one.
• Demonstrated undergraduate teaching and teacher education mentoring experience.
• Experience contributing to postgraduate teaching and supervision.
• A commitment to innovative teaching, including online and team teaching.
• A strong research and scholarship record, with research funding and postgraduate supervision experience appropriate to the level of appointment.
• Strong communication, collaboration and time-management skills.
• A commitment to Māori and Pasifika perspectives, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and an inclusive and collaborative academic environment.

Applicants with a strong academic profile and an established record of research, teaching, postgraduate supervision and academic leadership may be considered for appointment at Associate Professor level.
