Why Join De Montfort University?

At De Montfort University (DMU), we are committed to delivering an outstanding experience at every stage of the student journey, from registration through to graduation. We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Senior Exams and Awards Officer to play a key role in delivering examinations, awards and graduation ceremonies.

You will work at the heart of the University’s academic operations, taking responsibility for complex and time-critical activities that matter to our students. You will help plan and coordinate exam periods and graduation ceremonies, ensuring that services are delivered accurately, efficiently and with a strong focus on the student experience.

You will also supervise and support colleagues within the Exams and Awards team, managing workloads and priorities throughout the year.

You will join a university recognised globally for its commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, working on a vibrant campus in the heart of Leicester.

Role

As Senior Exams and Awards Officer, you will support the Exams and Awards Manager in leading the operational planning and delivery of exams, graduation ceremonies, and awards.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the team, allocating workloads and priorities and supporting colleagues to deliver an efficient, student-focused service.
  • Coordinating exam periods, including scheduling, venues, exam papers, invigilation and arrangements for students with additional requirements.
  • Working with colleagues across Registry, faculties, Estates, IT and other services to deliver exams effectively.
  • Supporting the recruitment, training and allocation of exam invigilators. Keep this one as it is.
  • Supporting graduation ceremonies, working with internal teams and external suppliers to coordinate arrangements.
  • Overseeing graduation processes, including ticketing, communications, publications and certificate distribution.
  • Identifying process improvements and opportunities to use digital tools to improve efficiency and service quality.
  • Managing competing deadlines and responding constructively to operational issues.
  • Working flexibly during exam and graduation periods, including some evening and weekend working.

About You

You will be an experienced operational professional with strong organisational, people management and problem-solving skills, comfortable working in a busy environment with changing priorities.

In particular, you will:

  • Experience of managing or supervising staff, allocating work, setting priorities and monitoring performance.
  • Experience of planning and delivering complex operational activities.
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Experience of delivering professional, customer-focused services and a commitment to an excellent student experience.
  • Ability to build productive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Strong digital skills and an interest in using technology to improve service delivery.
  • Experience of identifying and implementing process improvements.
  • Ability to communicate confidently and diplomatically with a range of audiences.
  • Confidence in supporting colleagues through change and developing new ways of working.
