About us:

The Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine Senior Quality Assurance Officer is based within Faculty Education Services (FES) which coordinates all aspects of programme and student administration for more than 100 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and supports over 7000 students.   

The Quality Assurance (QA) team manage and coordinate the adherence of all programmes to both College and professional regulatory and compliance requirements. The work includes internal and external reviews, annual monitoring and review, curriculum management and development, statutory reporting (for some programmes), evaluation and feedback coordination, aspects of collaborative partnership development and monitoring and educational governance. 

About the role:

Adopting a proactive and flexible approach, the post holder will lead and coordinate activity for a defined area of work contained within the remit of the QA team. This may involve committee servicing, internal and external quality reviews, working collaboratively with a broad range of academics, professional services colleagues and all stakeholders; producing timely, comprehensive documentation and reporting for all statutory returns and programme accreditation or review events. 

The post holder may coordinate and facilitate monitoring and evaluation requirements, across a range of collaborative partners, and has, amongst other things, responsibility for the organisation of quality visits and audit schedules, review of student feedback, preparation and publication of reports and proactive follow up on action plans or recommendations. There may be a requirement for the post holder to attend curriculum development meetings, therefore an understanding of quality assurance in higher education and ability to advise with reference to the UK Quality Code is desired.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. Work experience in a relevant post with similar responsibilities and requirements to this post
  2. Excellent communication and presentation skills; demonstrable ability to present information clearly, accurately and concisely to diverse stakeholders
  3. Data literacy skills and attention to detail with methodical, exacting standards of written and numerical accuracy
  4. Experience of reviewing and producing policy or procedural documentation
  5. Able to interpret and apply College and programme regulations and maintain up to date knowledge of external statutory compliance obligations
  6. IT experience, across all Microsoft packages; with significant experience of databases (student records systems)
  7. Proactive and able to work independently and as a team to meet deadlines across competing priorities and provide solutions to problems
  8. Experience of forming professional networks and able to negotiate and influence across organisational boundaries to implement positive change

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.

Desirable criteria

  1. Previous HE experience and knowledge of UK Quality Code
  2. Previous experience of working in a health programme in HE and producing quality assurance reports/statutory returns
  3. Experience of collaborative provision development and/or monitoring
  4. Experience of programme governance and delivering professional committee servicing
  5. Evidence of continued professional training or development
