Location: Preston
Salary: £42,254 to £48,822 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 2nd September 2026
Closes: 27th September 2026
Job Ref: 0772-26

About the role:

The University of Lancashire and the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) have partnered to address the global doctor shortage through delivery of a new accredited medical qualification, the Doctor of Medicine (MD) programme. Building on a collaboration that began in 2017, the two institutions now offer a pathway starting with a two-year Postgraduate Diploma in International Medical Sciences (PGDip IMS) studied in the UK at University of Lancashire, followed by a further two years study to complete the U.S.-accredited MD degree with AUC while in clinical sites in the US or UK.

The purpose of this role is to support the PGDip International Medical Sciences/MD (AUC) programme through high‑quality teaching in Clinical Medicine and Clinical Skills, effective academic support of students, and active contribution to curriculum development and the wider student experience. You will contribute to planning and delivering Clinical Medicine and Skills teaching in collaboration with colleagues across the UK and AUC Sint Maarten campuses, ensuring alignment with programme objectives and quality assurance processes.

As a Lecturer, you will contribute to co-ordination of Clinical Medicine and Skills across the programme, maintain accurate academic records and support student recruitment and progression. You will be expected to uphold the University’s values and make a positive, proactive contribution to enhancing the learning environment for our diverse international medical student community.

About you:

The successful candidate will bring strong higher‑education teaching experience in Clinical Medicine and/or Clinical Skills, with recent practice experience in a UK medical facility and a proven ability to deliver engaging, practice‑informed learning. You should be confident teaching within defined curricula and able to supervise research projects up to master’s level.

Essential requirements include an undergraduate degree and relevant postgraduate qualification, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary academic team. You will demonstrate a flexible, innovative approach to teaching, strong digital literacy (including Microsoft tools and Blackboard), and a commitment to inclusive, respectful learning environments.

It would also be beneficial to have experience of teaching medical students, familiarity with USMLE‑aligned content and membership of the Higher Education Academy or relevant professional bodies.

Use of AI in applications: We want to understand your genuine interest in the role and artificial intelligence can be a useful tool to support your application. However, all examples and statements provided must be truthful, factually accurate and taken directly from your own experience and the written elements of your application should accurately reflect your own communication style. Applications that rely too heavily on AI tools can appear generic and lack the detail we need to assess your skills and experience.

What we can offer you:

We have a fantastic package of rewards and lifestyle benefits – from an attractive annual leave entitlement to access to a comprehensive employee benefits platform which includes a 24/7 online GP.

Our people are our most important asset. We’ll encourage you to make the most of your talents and continually develop your skills and knowledge. As well as realising your career ambitions, you’ll be making a positive difference to other people’s lives.
