DTU Sustain invites applications for a Tenure Track Researcher position in the Geotechnics and Geology Section. We seek an emerging research leader with the vision and ambition to develop an internationally recognized research programme dealing with modelling climate change impacts on pavement infrastructure and investigating adaptation strategies to address these impacts.
Responsibilities
The Section for Geotechnics and Geology at DTU Sustain is seeking a new scientific staff member to lead research in thermomechanical modelling of pavement infrastructure, with particular emphasis on quantifying climate change impacts and enhancing resilience to extreme weather events such as heat waves, cold spells, prolonged rainfall, and permafrost thaw. Additional aspects to consider include safety, digitalization, and innovative/non-traditional paving materials.
The successful candidate should contribute to the following activity areas:
Dissemination of research results is expected through journal articles, conference papers, engineering reports, conference presentations, collaborative work at the national and international levels, and services to public administrations and industry.
Educational responsibilities primarily involve supporting student projects. Of lesser/secondary importance to the position are classroom teaching activities, e.g., developing new teaching materials, delivering lectures, and writing/grading exams.
The work is based at Lyngby Campus, with possible short-duration duties at other DTU campuses, such as Ballerup and Sisimiut (Greenland). Lastly, the candidate is expected to actively seek collaboration with researchers within the Section, researchers from other sections within Sustain, and with researchers from other departments at DTU.
Qualifications
Area of expertise: A PhD in engineering dealing with thermo-mechanical modelling, preferably with application to pavement infrastructure. Demonstrated expertise in: (i) working with numerical tools, e.g., Comsol, GeoStudio, Abaqus, or Ansys; (ii) working with sensors and with sensor-acquired data; and (iii) proficiency in math software, e.g., Matlab and Maple, and coding in open programming languages, e.g., Python and C.
Academic competences: Ability to conceptualize and lead independent research questions. A strong publication record, relevant to the field that demonstrates a high level of involvement in writing peer-reviewed journal articles and conference papers. Track record of presenting at international conferences. Experience in securing external research funding. Some experience in supervising or co-supervising students, and classroom teaching.
Personal-professional competences. Strong communication skills, both written and oral. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team. Structured and self-driven approach to work. Good interpersonal skills and ability to engage with diverse stakeholders. Curiosity, initiative, and a proactive mindset. Project management experience with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Fluency in English and, preferably, some command of other European languages.
You must contribute to the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.
As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).
