The University of Liverpool is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate or Research Associate, depending on experience, to join the interdisciplinary Outcomes Tracker project, working closely with the Core Outcome Measures in Effectiveness Trials (COMET) Initiative.

You will develop and evaluate natural language processing and machine-learning methods (including large language models) to extract and compare outcomes reported across clinical trial registries, protocols and publications. Working with computer scientists, statisticians, trial methodologists, outcomes researchers, and patient and public contributors, you will curate datasets, build reproducible models and software, and develop practical tools to identify outcome-reporting bias and assess the uptake of COMET core outcome sets.

You will either need a PhD (or be nearing completion), in computer science, data science, artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML), health data science, bioinformatics or a related discipline; or have significant experience in applying AI/ML to health data with a Master’s degree in the above areas if you do not have a PhD. You should bring experience in NLP or machine learning, strong programming skills, and a commitment to transparent, reproducible research, and a willingness to engage in a semantically challenging area of NLP.

If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31.

The post is available for 2 years.
