New College Worcester is a national residential school and college for children and young people aged 11 to 19 who are blind or vision impaired. Set in extensive grounds overlooking the Malvern Hills, NCW is a unique and rewarding place to work, making a difference to the lives of young people with a vision impairment.

We are looking for a Health & Safety Education Compliance Lead to make sure the College meets all its legal, statutory and regulatory obligations across our educational and residential provision. Working closely with our Senior Leadership Team, managers, governors and external agencies, you will champion a culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement - spanning health and safety, safeguarding, policy management, risk and inspection readiness.

Your day to day duties will include

  • Acting as the College's operational lead for health and safety - inspections, audits, risk assessments, accident and incident investigation (including RIDDOR) and statutory testing.
  • Managing a rolling programme of policy reviews, keeping every policy compliant, current and communicated to staff, parents and students.
  • Identifying, monitoring and reporting on compliance risks across the College (Single Central Record, GDPR, health and safety, safeguarding), advising SLT and reporting to Governors.
  • Supporting safeguarding, including confidential records of low-level concerns and arrangements for visitors and hirers.
  • Preparing for and supporting education and residential inspections, including self-evaluation and improvement planning.

To be successful in this role you will need

  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrable experience in a compliance role, ideally within education or another regulated sector.
  • Strong knowledge of UK educational regulations, safeguarding, data protection (GDPR) and health and safety legislation.
  • Experience of conducting audits and risk assessments against statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong organisation, and confident communication with staff, SLT and governors.
  • A relevant compliance or legal qualification (e.g. ILM Diploma in Compliance) and familiarity with Ofsted inspections (desirable).

This appointment is subject to two satisfactory and verified references, an Enhanced DBS Clearance and Registration, medical clearance and a three-month probationary period. Please note that the May Day Bank Holiday and Celebration Day (Saturday, end of June / beginning of July) are working days for all NCW staff.

Pro rata salary    : £20,577PA - £22,099PA based on Term Time Only 3 days per week.
