Postgraduate Education Associate - Sustainability

Location: Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, Woodstock Road, Oxford

Applications are invited for the post of Postgraduate Education Fellow – Sustainability, to join the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences (NDPCHS). This newly created post will play a key role in strengthening and embedding environmental sustainability across the department's postgraduate education programmes, supporting curriculum development, teaching innovation and strategic capacity-building. Reporting to Professor Sara Shaw, the successful applicant will work closely with postgraduate programme teams across the department.

The successful applicant will contribute to the development, delivery and integration of sustainability teaching and learning across postgraduate programmes. Responsibilities will include developing teaching materials and online learning resources relating to environmental sustainability in health care; mapping existing sustainability teaching and identifying opportunities for curriculum enhancement; supporting programme leaders to embed sustainability into existing courses; helping establish sustainability-focused dissertation opportunities; contributing to departmental capacity-building and strategic development; supporting approaches to carbon foot printing of teaching activities; and building networks across the University to share learning and raise the profile of sustainability education.

The department has a strong education portfolio spanning undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and has a strategic commitment to supporting sustainable health care. It holds an international Beacon Award for sustainability in undergraduate medical education and is now investing in developing sustainability across postgraduate education. The postholder will be hosted in the Interdisciplinary Research in Health Sciences (IRIHS) research group, led by Professor Sara Shaw and Associate Professor Chrysanthi Papoutsi. The group brings together a broad range of disciplinary perspectives spanning health and social care, medicine, sociology, anthropology, policy studies, psychology and related fields.

You will have, or be close to completing, a relevant PhD/DPhil, together with expertise relevant to sustainable health care, environmental sustainability, climate change or a related field. You will have experience of designing, delivering or supporting postgraduate teaching and learning, excellent communication skills, and the ability to develop engaging teaching materials for diverse audiences. Experience of working collaboratively across interdisciplinary teams and building effective partnerships is essential. An understanding of carbon foot printing and its application within education is required, together with a commitment to supporting the department's sustainability ambitions and embedding sustainability across postgraduate education.

You will be based in the Radcliffe Primary Care Building, Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, Woodstock Road, Oxford, OX2 6GG as your normal place of work, with hybrid working available by agreement with your line manager. The post is offered full-time, although applications for part-time working will be considered (minimum 0.8FTE).

The post is offered for 12 months in the first instance.
