About you 

Do you want to develop and deliver research to improve the lives of people living with cancer? At Myeloma UK we are expanding our Applied Health Research (AHR) team to deliver the bold ambition of our new Research Strategy. 

Myeloma UK is looking for a skilled and highly motivated Lead Researcher to join our AHR team. This role will develop our flagship Unmet and Emerging Needs Research Programme, gathering insight from the myeloma community to drive the change needed to deliver better diagnosis, treatment and care. 

The role holder will:

• be a skilled researcher with experience of survey design, health research methodologies and understanding of PPI/E
• have experience in managing and developing a team
• be motivated to realise income potential from our research
• Help build our digital and AI capabilities 

The successful candidate will have exceptional project management and organisational skills and be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences.  They will have effective decision-making and problem-solving skills, being able to remain calm under pressure. 

About the role 

Our new Research Strategy puts people affected by myeloma in the driving seat. Our Applied Health Research (AHR) team:

• Develops understanding of patient and carer experiences
• translates insight into innovation
• powers the long-term vision of the whole organisation 

Our goal is to ensure that our data becomes the “go to” source for patient and carer experience and insight in myeloma and associated conditions in the UK and beyond. 

The role will provide day to day leadership for key AHR programmes including our core Unmet and Emerging Needs Research Programme and our gold standard delivery of Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPI/E), including our Patient and Carer Research Panel. (PCRP). 

The postholder may also be required to support the Principal Researcher in AHR in external research projects delivering PPI/E, mixed methods studies and drafting grant proposals. 

Our applied health research is published in academic journals and presented at national and international conferences including the American Society of Haematology.  

You will liaise closely with internal teams in Myeloma UK, external research collaborators and University partners as part of your role.
