Ernest Butten Professorship of Management Studies

Saïd Business School and Balliol College intend to appoint to the Ernest Butten Professorship of Management Studies with a focus in Finance with effect from 1 September 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter. This statutory professorship offers an exceptional opportunity for an outstanding scholar to shape the future of finance research, education and engagement at one of the world's leading universities. The successful candidate will also hold a Professorial Fellowship at Balliol College.

As Ernest Butten Professor, you will provide academic leadership within Saïd Business School, contributing to the School's research strategy and strengthening its international reputation in Finance. You will lead an intellectually rigorous and relevant programme of research addressing important issues in Finance, while developing research that informs business practice and contributes to wider academic and policy debates. You will build collaborations across the School, the wider University and with leading institutions, businesses, government and other organisations internationally.

You will contribute to the School's graduate teaching, including the MBA, Executive MBA, Masters in Financial Economics and doctoral programmes, and supervise Masters and doctoral students. You will also contribute to executive education, helping translate cutting-edge research into learning that is relevant to business leaders and organisations. Through your research, teaching and engagement, you will play a significant role in shaping the next generation of finance scholars and practitioners.

As a Fellow of Balliol College, you will join one of Oxford's oldest and most distinguished colleges and contribute to its intellectual and academic life. You will also contribute to the governance of the College as a member of its Governing Body and as a trustee.

You will be a world-class scholar with an outstanding record of high-quality publications in leading peer-reviewed Finance journals and a sustained programme of rigorous and relevant research. You will have a strong academic background in Finance or Economics, a proven ability to attract research funding and lead research programmes, and the ability to demonstrate impact beyond academia. You will combine intellectual excellence with the communication and interpersonal skills needed to engage diverse audiences, teach high-achieving students and act as an ambassador for Saïd Business School and for the University.
